John and Katrina Price founded Price Bloodstock due to a love of horses...
Upon starting Standardbred Breeding we got lucky - our first breeding produced a Group winner - Bellaholmes. This gave us the courage to commit fully to our dream of owning a horse farm and breeding ‘classic horses’.
Courage, experience, resilience and blind faith led to more good luck, including Chicago Blues and Democrat Party who continue to fulfill our dreams and aspirations.
Of course there have been countless mistakes, failures and disappointments along the way – there is no escaping this in breeding and racing. Which oddly is part of the appeal – it makes the success sweeter
We enjoy the journey of producing a nice horse – matching pedigrees, researching nicks and crosses, getting a positive pregnancy, looking after the mare, feeding up on a cold winter day, welcoming the new foal, nurturing the horse’s development and education, the countless hours caring, feeding, grooming, and training to present a beautiful horse to the races or the sales ring with all your hopes riding on it.
We challenge ourselves by constantly developing our horsemanship skills and knowledge – inseminating mares, farriery, handling young stock, driving, training, breaking horses into the cart, yearling preparation etc.
Did you know? The orange attire worn by the PB Yearling Sales Team represents
the racing colours (tangerine with royal blue braces) used by the Price Family for
nearly a century.
